Rod was born in Washington, D.C. at a time when live music of any style or type was available for the listening. Rod’s influences are many. Some of those that had the most impact were Earth-Wind-& Fire, Carlos Santana, The Eagles, George Benson, Wes Montgomery, Jack McDuff, Buddy Miles, Ramsey Lewis, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Larry Graham, Commissioned, Fred Hammond, L.A. Mass Choir, Ben Tankard, and others. This is certainly an eclectic mix of music and influence. Rod played woodwind and brass instruments all through grade school and picked up the guitar at the age of 13. He immediately began to play in bands around the city. He’s played in everything from clubs to arenas. In addition, Rod became a noted studio musician for many local artists. Rod came to Los Angeles, CA in December 1984 as a writer for a prominent R&B group but soon rededicated his life to Christ and has never performed secular music since. His commitments to the things of God are undeniable. In 1986 Rod became the Minister of Music at El Shaddai Christian Fellowship Church (Los Angeles, CA) under Pastor Charles E. Bell. Rod helped build the music program to new levels of anointing and acceptance. Rod was later named as Assistant Pastor there where he served for over twelve years. 1997 God called Rod to The Rock Church & World Outreach Center (San Bernardino, CA) under Pastors Jim & Deborah Cobrae where he has been busy building the kingdom of God through music and God’s Word. In 2001, Rod founded Young Adults in Praise at the church. Y.A.P., as it is known, is a developmental music ministry for youth and young adults. His wife, Shameca, helps direct the group.
